Presentation

Tejido

The work of the group focuses on both basic and therapeutic aspects of the formation of new neurons in the adult brain. Special attention is given to the effect of the physical exercise and an enriched environment or stress. With this goal, we evaluate learning and memory, anxiety-like and depressive-like behaviours, as well as its impairments during some neurodegenerative diseases.

José Luis Trejo

José Luis Trejo investigated about the role of several hormones and growth factors on the neurogenesis, both during development and in the adult hippocampus. From 2005, he is the head of the Group of Adult Neurogenesis in the Cajal Institute (CSIC) at Madrid, focused in the investigation of the role of the new neurons in the hippocampus-dependent learning and memory and its possible use in therapies against several diseases or stress.
